“Having witnessed Bill’s dynamic leadership as Delta’s Managing Director over the last five years, I am confident that he is exactly the right person to guide Delta as it addresses the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead,” said Mayer. “Bill’s depth of technical knowledge combined with his ability to ideate new approaches and partnerships is unparalleled, and I look forward to working closely with him to continue advancing Delta’s vision of a more resilient Chicago and Great Lakes region.”

In his time at Delta Institute, Schleizer has led projects related to climate, agriculture, water and ecosystems. Schleizer also created innovative programs to connect farmers and landowners with environmental markets. As CEO, he will drive Delta’s strategy, fundraising, external relations and administrative efforts.

“I have dedicated my career to advancing innovation within the environmental sector, and I’ve been fortunate to have spent over a decade at Delta doing just that,” said Schleizer. “I am grateful for the opportunity to work with Delta’s remarkably talented team to expand our work, build new partnerships and deepen our impact.”

Prior to joining Delta in 2004, Schleizer was an environmental consultant for a variety of industries, specializing in water, air and waste permitting and compliance. He holds an MS in Environmental Analysis and Decision Making from Rice University and a BS in Ecology, Evolution and Organismal Biology and Environmental Studies from Tulane University.

Schleizer succeeds Jean Pogge who stepped down from her role as Delta CEO last December. She now serves as President of Ecotrust Canada, a Vancouver-based nonprofit.
