BOMA/Chicago Announces 2014 TOBY Winners

Last week, the Building Owners and Managers Association of Chicago (BOMA/Chicago) announced the winners of the Gold Circle and TOBY (The Outstanding Building of the Year) Awards at a gala held in Union Station’s Great Hall.

The TOBY Awards recognize excellence in office building management, with the slate of nominee buildings divided up by size and function. Criteria for the judges included emergency preparedness, budget management, tenant relations initiatives, commitment to environmental sustainability, security and other factors.

Double Down: Two Riverfront Buildings Invest in Sustainability

The two buildings at 10 and 120 South Riverside Plaza sit beside the south branch of the Chicago River, near more traditionally attractive, art deco structures like 2 North Riverside Plaza and the Civic Opera House. These two Miesian boxes aren’t necessarily homely in comparison so much as emblematic of their era. Designed by Skidmore Owings and Merrill and erected in 1965 and 1967, they exhibit the steel and glass aesthetic of mid-century modernism.

BOMA Chicago Announces Winners of 2011-2012 TOBY Awards

The Building Owners and Managers Association of Chicago (BOMA/Chicago) announced the winners of “The Outstanding Building of the Year” (TOBY) Awards at an awards gala over the weekend. The TOBY Awards are designed to recognize excellence in office building management across several categories based on building size and type. The buildings were judged on tenant relations, commitment to environmental sustainability, emergency preparedness, budgeting, work order systems, security standards, staff experience and continuing education opportunities.
